These are the lightest and easiest to put on combat boots you’ll ever own. Years ago, I owned a pair of black Docs that I originally bought to wear to a party with a vintage prom dress. I loved the look so much that I tried wearing them as my everyday shoe, but they got scratched up and the sole started to feel “broken” and uncomfortable after only a few months of daily use. Maguire’s Bellunos are obviously much more expensive than Doc Martens, but you can tell that they are of a much higher quality and meant to be worn and used unapologetically. I don’t drive and walking is my main form of transportation, so weight is also a big factor for me. These shoes are like feathers & probably even lighter than my old beaten up “sensible” walking/running shoes.
Ayesha at the store talked to me on the phone extensively about these boots and coaxed me into buying them after a lot of uncertainty. Everyone at Maguire owns the Bellunos, Ayesha told me, and the sand was the colour she had chosen. “I’m surprised by how often I reach for them,” she said, explaining that she wanted to expand her collection beyond just black boots. I’m so glad that I ordered these boots. They are definitely not your quintessential black combat boot, but they’re elegant and classy in their own right. I call them by “angelic boots” because right away I could see how well they pair with softer “little girl” colours like periwinkle, powdery pink, and lavender. I want to style them with a pair of pale blue high-waisted jeans & a vintage creamy white dress shirt with a mandarin collar and embroidered blue flowers. Bright orange-toned creamsicle or coral also goes wonderfully — any of those soft colours that have a “brightness” to them. They’re also great for putting together a cottagecore look, such as with a floral skirt and patterns that remind me of tea cozies or linen tablecloths, or adding a bit of extra sweetness to an “Adams family” type of black dress. The suede looks particularly great with soft knits like vests and little crop tops tucked into a pair of high-waisted jeans. These are incredibly versatile shoes and I would not count them out just because they’re different.
